Essex Fells is ideally located near Interstate 280. This Major highway provides access by car to the Garden State Parkway, the Lincoln and Holland Tunnels or Newark Airport. DeCamp buses heading to Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan run along Bloomfield Avenue. Commuting time via these buses is over one hour. New Jersey Transit buses to Manhattan are also available at the Willowbrook Mall Park & Ride about five miles north on Route 46 in Wayne. New Jersey Transit train service to Hoboken and Manhattan is available in Montclair.
Essex Fells has a full-time police force and a volunteer fire department and rescue squad. A private contractor collects trash twice a week, for a nominal cost per quarter. Although Essex Fells has no public library, for a nominal charge residents may use the Roseland or Caldwell Public libraries. There are no supermarkets or other retail establishments in Essex Fells, but there are seveal supermarkets and shops in nearby Caldwell and West Caldwell. Shopping is readily available at the Willowbrook and Livingston Malls and The Mall at Short Hills. The nearest hospitals are Mountain Hospital located in Montclair/Glen Ridge and St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.
