Roseland is set in the scenic, wooded hills of western Essex County 20 miles west of New York City. With approximately 5,300 residents spread over a 3.5 square mile area, Roseland has steadfastly maintained its small town feels as it has grown from a rural community of farms to a thriving employment center with tasetfully designed office parks and beautiful homes. Some of the flavor of that bygone era is still evident in the picturesque Old Borough Hall and the rustic glacial stone walls outside the gatehouse to the secluded Homehill Farm residential area.
The Noecker elementary school serves students in grades K-6. Roseland is part of the West Essex School District. In conjunction with three other suburban Essex towns, students in grades 7-9 attend West Essex Regional Middle School and students in grades 10-12 attend West Essex Regional High School. Both West Essex Middle and High Schools are located in North Caldwell.
Three exits located on Interstate 280, provide Roseland with access to Interstate Route 80, the Garden State Parkway and the NJ Turnpike. DeCamp buses operate weekdays to and from New York City's Port Authority Terminal. Additional bus service to NYC is offered in nearby Caldwell and Livingston. The closest rail service to New York City is either in the Oranges or Montclair.
Roseland offers a wide range of recreation programs to local residents of all ages, especially in the summer months. A modern libary and community center is located in the center of town and residents can use the outdoor community pool in West Caldwell as well as the indoor pool at the Caldwell Community Center for a nominal charge. Roseland has a full-time police force while the fire department and first aid squad are made up of volunteers. Major supermarkets are located in nearby Caldwell and West Caldwell. Shopping is available at the Livingston, Short Hills and Willowbrook Malls. The nearest hospital serving Roseland is St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.
